Rucker Creek Rucker Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant

July 2009 - Update on Rucker Creek Sewer Plant The debate over whether or not a sewer plant will be built on Rucker Creek is over. The developer sold the property and the applications to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) have been withdrawn. How did this happen? Basically, someone read the legal notice in the Hood County News and started a letter writing campaign to the TCEQ and elected officials. When elected officials see that a large number of their constituents are one side of an issue they get interested! TCEQ is a State government organization. Its funding and oversight comes from our elected officials. Those who opposed the sewer plant had a point person who was “in it for the long haul”. The process took just over 3.5 years. The end result is our lake/river has one less possible source of pollution.

The Rucker Creek issue is resolved, but it can serve as an example of what people can accomplish when they step up, get involved early and don’t give up. What would the Brazos look like today if no one had gotten involved forty years ago when Lake Granbury was created? If you are not a member of the BRCC, please step up and join today. Please work with us to protect the Brazos River.
