Upcoming Meeting

The next public meeting of the BRCC will be on November 11, 2008 at 7:00 PM in the Concert Hall at the Langdon Center, Brazos and Bridge streets, Granbury.  The featured speaker will be Jeff Sammon, Environmental Planner for the Brazos River Upper Basin.  Mr. Sammon will discuss recent developments in BRA planning and projects that affect the Hood County stretch of the Brazos River.  This will be an opportunity to promote the passage of the JGSR legislation with the BRA and access their position.  A large member turnout at this meeting is important to assure our influence with the BRA.

JGSR Progress

At the September BRCC meeting President Billy Teels outlined recent developments for securing support for the JGSR legislation.  A significant element of the effort is getting a commitment from area government and civic organizations.  Official resolutions of support have been passed by the Hood County Commissioners Court, the City of Granbury, and the City of DeCordova.  John Graves has agreed to let the BRCC post excerpts from his book “Goodbye to a River” on its website without copyright fees.

Efforts are underway to get resolutions of support from Lake Granbury Chamber of Commerce, the City of Brazos Bend and the Johnson County Commissioners Court. The Friends of the Brazos are working through Commissioner James Barnard to get a resolution of support from the Somervell commissioners Court.  They are also working to get a resolution from the Glen Rose City Council.  The Friends of the Brazos have enthusiastically joined with the BRCC efforts to get the JGSR designation extended though Hood and Somervell counties.
