Scope/Purpose of Project:
The John Graves Scenic Riverway Photographic Project, otherwise known as the Brazos River Project, is an endeavor to photographically capture the beauty, history and significance of life along the Brazos River. The purpose of this project is to promote and celebrate the extension of the John Graves Scenic Riverway into Hood, Johnson and Somervell Counties and beyond, which will help to preserve the natural resources and high quality of life provided by the Brazos. Photographers should attempt to convey the message that these resources and the lifestyle they afford are precious and worth protecting.

Participation:
The Photography Project will be undertaken by members of the LGAA Photography Group, but will be open to participation by members of the public. All participants are required to follow Project Guidelines. There are no age restrictions for participants.

Exhibit:
Photographs will be collected by a Project Committee to be submitted for use in a future exhibit. The Project Committee reserves the right to reject any photos that do not adhere to the Project Guidelines. Inclusion of photos in the exhibit will be determined by two parties in the following way:
1.         Advisory Board, BRCC — This group will first review the submitted photos to determine if they indeed reflect the Life of the Brazos. All photos deemed to meet this standard will be forwarded to the:
2.         Photography Group (representatives), LGAA — This group will review the photos for their photographic quality and content, considering the photo’s technical and design merits. They will determine if a submission meets the Photographic Group’s photo contest entry rules. (See attached.) The Project Chair in conjunction with the Photo Group representatives will determine which photos will be included in the exhibit with the following reservations:
A)        The total number of the photos exhibited will be limited by the space available in the exhibit site.
B)        Every attempt will be made to exhibit work from as many photographers as possible, provided their work meets the Project Guidelines and is approved as stated previously by both the BRCC and the Photo Group.
C)        Each photographer may show up to 3 photos in the exhibit.

The BRCC and/or the Photography Group may use the exhibit to promote membership in said groups. The location, date, hours, etc. of the exhibit are to be determined by the Project Committee.

Project Guidelines:

1.         Photos submitted to the JGSR Photographic Project must have been taken during the two-year time period June 1, 2007 to June 1, 2009.
2.         Photos submitted must have been taken within 2 miles of the segment of the Brazos River designated (or soon to be designated) as the John Graves Scenic Riverway. This segment flows from the south end of Possum Kingdom Lake through Palo Pinto County, Hood County and Somervell County, ending at the southeast border of Somervell County. (See map.)
3.         Photos should depict the theme Life of the Brazos. First preference for subject matter is as follows:  Photos that include the body of water known as the Brazos including Lake Granbury and its inlets; photos that include a historic site or historic figure (person) from the JGSR area as designated above (County Historic Societies will be used as resources for this determination); and nature/wildlife photos. (Why? This subject matter closely parallels the content of John Graves’ book, Goodbye to a River, A Narrative.)
4.         Photos may encompass nature/livestock/pets, landscape, people/portrait, architecture or abstract subjects as long as they depict the theme as determined by the BRCC.
5.         Photos must be submitted in a format as stated in the Photography Group’s photo contest entry rules.
6.         Photos must be submitted by July 11, 2009*. All photos must include a completed entry form for each photo submitted.
7.         The Photo Exhibit will be held July 18 - August 14 at the Granbury Square Plaza, 201 E. Pearl St. Photos should be picked up at Granbury Square Plaza from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. on August 14. After August 14, it is the responsibility of the photographer to pick up his/her photo from the Photo Club’s storage facility. Call for information — 817-578-8892.

Submit photos to:  Photographic entries for the exhibit will be collected and reviewed from 9 a.m. to Noon, Saturday, July 11, at the Hood County Annex I, 1410 W. Pearl St., Granbury. Photographers who cannot attend the July 11 turn-in may take their photos to the Granbury Chamber of Commerce, 3408 E. Hwy. 377, during normal business hours Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., July 6-10. All photos not accepted for the exhibit will be returned to the owners July 11 and must be taken home at this time.

1.         Photographs must be original photography taken by entrant.

2.         Photographers grant full rights for the Project Committee to use any submitted photograph for publicity/promotion purposes supporting the BRCC, Photography Group or the John Graves Scenic Riverway. The photographer will be given credit for his/her work and should any fees be paid in association with using the photograph, the photographer will receive those monies. If a photograph is selected for publicity/promotion purposes, the photographer agrees to furnish a digital file (.jpg).

3.         Photographers must be able to document that individuals in photos have given written consent to be photographed (not to include public figures, general photos taken at large public outings, unrecognizable persons or crowds).

4.         Photography should be rated “G” for general audience. No nudes or sexually explicit photos will be accepted. Project chair has the right to reject any work that does not fall within these guidelines.

5.         Photographic prints are required. The minimum photograph print that will be accepted is one that measures 10 inches on its longest side. Maximum acceptable photograph print size will be 20x24 inches. Maximum frame size is 30x34 inches. Panoramic or other unusual size photographs may be submitted, but their size is not to exceed the total dimension inches of above maximum print sizes.  Example: normal 20x24=88 inches, panorama 12x32=88 inches.

6.         Photography must be framed and ready to hang with a wire attached to the back of the frame. Saw tooth hangers are not permitted. An entry form must be attached to the back of the framed photo (see attached). The form must state the photographer’s name and telephone number, preferably with an e-mail address, as well as the photo title.

7.         Each photo must be submitted with two completed entry forms. There is no entry fee. These photos will not be judged for the purpose of awarding prizes.

8.         No late entries will be accepted. Deadline is July 11, 2009*.

9.         The Project Committee and all representatives will give all reasonable care to the photography. However, the Project and its representatives will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any works submitted to this Project.

10.       Photography work may be collected at the exhibit’s end. Photographers exhibiting work will be notified of the time and place of pick up. Photography left after the pick up deadline will become the property of the BRCC unless previous arrangements have been made.

11.       Work will not be sold at the exhibit. However, a list of photographers, their contact phone numbers and a listing of their photographs on display will be on hand during the exhibit. Photographers may indicate whether or not a photograph is for sale and the sale price; this information will be listed on the contact list.
